About
Damian Kennedy is a caricature and portrait artist based on the beautiful Far South Coast of NSW.
After a career as a teacher and then in Rugby League Development he is now focussing his time on his artwork, spending as much time as possible in his studio. Whilst appreciating most forms of art, Damian focuses on illustrations, including caricatures, and realistic portraiture.
His recent work has involved caricatures for sporting clubs and organisations, often as a gift or award for services rendered or outstanding achievement. Additionally, he has completed individual commissions for a variety of clients.
During the Covid Lockdown period he wrote and illustrated his first children’s book, ‘Grab that hat!’, with the promise of more to come.
Damian also has a love of realistic portraiture, appreciating artists such as John Singer-Sargant, van Rijn, Whistler as well as contemporary portrait artists such as Zhang Xiaogang, Jonathon Yeo, Colin Davidson and Evert Ploeg.
Damian acknowledges that much of his appreciation for, and love of art, was fostered by Brother Don Gallagher, himself a very accomplished artist, who taught Damian at St Edmunds College, Canberra. He also loves the Caricature work of Tom Richmond, famous for much of Mad magazines very clever artwork over many years.
